Six months ago, I heard about Andy’s condition and sent him an email (below) that best captured my reflections on our shared past:
“In a moment like this, I flashed to our common past: Fernway, Byron, SHHS, and Washington U., even Suburban Temple. Clearly much has intervened since then, but it’s the early days that make this news so disquieting for me.
I have vivid memories of playing street football and move-up on Maynard Road, playing board games and spades, marveling at the intellectual interests of your mom and the quiet determination of your dad. Yours was a low-key, understated family like no other I knew.
We were all fortunate to begin as friends when we did and to move our lives along with those principles and those memories held dear. I hope they will keep you strong throughout your treatment and recovery.
Good luck in the days ahead. I’ll be thinking of you."

Rest in peace, my friend.
