DR. JAMES
Dr. James Winer, a pioneer in the Alternative Health movement and a beloved local practitioner, died suddenly in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He was 70 years old. Dr. Winer was a familiar voice on local radio, bringing his message of nutritional therapy and alternative health treatments to his many patients in the tri-state area and throughout the country. Dr. Winer established the Winer Wellness Center to treat and educate the public on alternative ways to good health. His passion and caring for his patients showed and he helped thousands during his 45 year career. He was able to show his patients how their body could heal itself if given the proper nutrients without unnecessary surgeries and medication. It was his mission to educate everyone and he authored many books and articles on Alternative Health. During his long career, he served as a lecturer, editor and teacher in the Alternative Health field. He was the Associate Director of the prestigious Price-Pottenger Nutrition Research Foundation, Director of the National Health Project, Convention Director of the National Health Federation, Education Director of the Hippocrates Health Institute in San Diego, California, Editor of the "Journal of Energy Medicine" and founder and Director of Winer Wellness Center. In his quest to provide quality supplements to his patients he founded Nutritional Frontiers and brought quality products to Practitioners and patients throughout the nation. Dr. Winer graduated magna cum laude from Brandeis University and studied French at the Sorbonne in Paris. He was the valedictorian of his class at Life University, where he received his doctorate summa cum laude. He was an accomplished pianist and was a patron and champion of the arts and an ardent supporter of the Pittsburgh Symphony, Opera and Ballet. He loved to travel and visited many museums of art and attended many performances throughout the world. Dr. Winer was born in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Abraham and Lois Winer. He is survived by his sister, Joanne Miller of Pittsburgh; his aunt, Belle Garrick of Los Angeles; many loving cousins and countless admiring friends and patients. A Memorial Service will be held early next year.
